About ADS

ADS is a nonprofit behavioral health organization providing substance use disorder and related services across North Carolina. ADS is mission-driven and primarily funded through Medicaid/Medicare, government contracts, and public grants.

Position Overview

ADS is seeking a President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to provide strategic, financial, and operational leadership for the organization. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO will lead a complex, government-funded nonprofit organization in a resource-constrained environment and will be responsible for ensuring financial sustainability, regulatory compliance, and high-quality service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership and strategic direction for ADS in partnership with the Board of Directors
  • Oversee financial operations, budgeting, forecasting, and compliance for a Medicaid- and grant-funded organization
  • Lead relationships with government agencies, funders, and managed care organizations
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and operational excellence across all programs
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for sustainable growth and diversification of funding
  • Foster a collaborative, team-oriented culture in a lean operating environment

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Finance, Public Administration, or a related field
  • At least 5 years’ senior leadership experience in nonprofit, healthcare, behavioral health, or human services organizations
  • At least 5 years’ experience of strong background in financial management and government-funded programs
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a Board of Directors

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in substance use disorder or behavioral health services
  • Knowledge of North Carolina’s Medicaid and behavioral health funding landscape
  • Grant development and contract management experience
  • Track record of stabilizing or growing organizations in challenging funding environments
