Description

An Opportunity to Lead a Growing Cultural Institution in North Carolina’s Piedmont Triad
The Art Gallery at Congdon Yards (TAG) seeks a dynamic, hands-on, and visionary Executive Director to lead the organization into its next chapter of growth and community engagement.

With the upcoming retirement of longtime Executive Director Jeff Horney, TAG is looking for an energetic and experienced community builder who embraces our mission to provide visual art exhibitions and educational experiences that enrich High Point and the surrounding region. This is an exciting opportunity for a collaborative, roll-up-your-sleeves leader to build upon TAG’s strong foundation while expanding its reach, deepening community participation, and growing the philanthropic support needed to sustain the organization for generations to come.

The Executive Director provides both strategic and day-to-day leadership for TAG, working closely with the staff and Board of Directors to advance the organization’s mission and vision.

A central priority of the role will be leading TAG’s “friendraising to fundraising” efforts. The Executive Director will become an active and visible member of the High Point community, building relationships that increase participation, develop new sources of support, and strengthen TAG’s connections throughout the Piedmont Triad.

The Executive Director will also help shape compelling exhibitions, arts education programs, and community experiences while ensuring that TAG remains financially sound, well managed, and welcoming to artists, students, visitors, volunteers, donors, and community partners.

Salary & Benefits. The salary range for this position is $90,000–$120,000, depending on experience and qualifications. Benefits include:

  • Monthly healthcare stipend
  • 3% retirement-plan match
  • Paid holidays
  • Paid time off
  • Relocation assistance, if needed

The next Executive Director will benefit from a supportive and engaged Board, an energized and passionate staff, and the network of community relationships developed during Jeff Horney’s longstanding tenure.

Apply by Friday, September 18, 2026. Please submit the following to Courtney Best at grambest@gmail.com:

About High Point

High Point is a city in the midst of an exciting transformation. Long recognized as the Home Furnishings Capital of the World and host of the internationally renowned High Point Market, the city has expanded its identity to become a growing center for entrepreneurship, higher education, design, and creative placemaking.

Downtown High Point has experienced significant investment and renewal, with historic industrial buildings transformed into new destinations for business, hospitality, dining, entertainment, housing, and the arts. Congdon Yards, nearby restaurants and hotels, creative workspaces, startup incubators, and continued development have created an increasingly active year-round downtown.

High Point University continues to contribute to the city’s growth and national profile, while the larger Piedmont Triad—including Greensboro and Winston-Salem—offers the amenities and opportunities of a metropolitan region within a short drive.

For an arts leader, High Point presents a particularly compelling opportunity: a community with a tradition of philanthropic support, growing enthusiasm for cultural investment, and the chance to help shape the identity of a city whose story is still unfolding.
