About ADS
ADS is a nonprofit behavioral health organization providing substance use disorder and related services across North Carolina. ADS is mission-driven and primarily funded through Medicaid/Medicare, government contracts, and public grants.
Position Overview
ADS is seeking a President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to provide strategic, financial, and operational leadership for the organization. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO will lead a complex, government-funded nonprofit organization in a resource-constrained environment and will be responsible for ensuring financial sustainability, regulatory compliance, and high-quality service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide overall leadership and strategic direction for ADS in partnership with the Board of Directors
- Oversee financial operations, budgeting, forecasting, and compliance for a Medicaid- and grant-funded organization
- Lead relationships with government agencies, funders, and managed care organizations
- Ensure regulatory compliance and operational excellence across all programs
- Identify and pursue opportunities for sustainable growth and diversification of funding
- Foster a collaborative, team-oriented culture in a lean operating environment
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Finance, Public Administration, or a related field
- At least 5 years’ senior leadership experience in nonprofit, healthcare, behavioral health, or human services organizations
- At least 5 years’ experience of strong background in financial management and government-funded programs
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a Board of Directors
Preferred Experience
- Experience in substance use disorder or behavioral health services
- Knowledge of North Carolina’s Medicaid and behavioral health funding landscape
- Grant development and contract management experience
- Track record of stabilizing or growing organizations in challenging funding environments
