What we do: The foundations mission is to help end generational poverty. We know that delivering impactful early childhood experiences, starting in 3rd grade can lead to life-changing advantages for underserved children.
Founded in 2002 with Meadowlark Lemon of the Harlem Globetrotters, we serve thousands of children across the U.S. In Greensboro, we work with over 2000 Title 1 children in Guilford Public Schools. Though we have thousands more around NC and the country, this position is for Greensboro.
How We Connect with Children: Our foundational programs starts with 3rd graders within schools that are 80% Title 1 (living below poverty). There is no cost for schools. All funding is from private donors, companies and foundations.
Our newest program, a character-trait learning program, uses 13 new books with students in the 5th through 8th grade. We are receiving national recognition for this extension.
The foundational book for third graders, Think Big, Work Hard, Be Kind, Never Give Up, is the theme for the year and is taught by teachers over 6 weeks during Sept/Oct. The final assignment has students writing essays for a chance to win a bike, usually their first. All 2000 students are surprised at the end of the award ceremony with a bike for their hard work. Our program spans three years with follow-up books for 4th and 5th graders.
We have received national awards, appeared on TV shows, and collaborated with professional sports teams and celebrities. Analytics show a significant increase in Title 1 kids pursuing further education after high school. We are making a difference.
Who We Are Looking for: The Relationship Director has a terrific opportunity to make a difference in the lives of Greensboro children by connecting by phone, messages and face-to-face meetings with our large contributors. You will be involved in setting and confirming appointments with referred potential contributors, attend these appointments with Bob Krumroy and follow-up as requested. You will also be active in encouraging our current donors to get their companies involved in bike assembly week, student reading programs, yearly receptions that we hold, etc. You will be involved in quarterly meetings with the school board, superintendent, elected and appointed officials, other foundations and broader general community members.
You must have a strong orientation to build relationships, possess solid presentation skills, excellent verbal communication, creative thinking, and a passion for social responsibility.
This role is 70% on-site and in-person. Hours and days are flexible.
Salary Range: The anticipated hiring range for this position is $25K -$35K, no benefits. If you are interested in upward movement, this can be a full time position when you are ready, which will place you in the lead position as NC president with a full benefit package.
