Guilford Nonprofit Consortium News

January 2010: Congratulations to our director, Donna Newton, on receiving the Greensboro Partnership's prestigious Athena Award for her contributions to the community.

The Athena Award is a national accolade that recognizes women who have demonstrated excellence, creativity and initiative in their community; have provided valuable service by contributing time and energy to improve the quality of life for others in the community; and have actively assisted women in realizing their full leadership potential.

As director of the Guilford Nonprofit Consortium and liaison to the Greensboro Neighborhood Congress and Building Stronger Neighborhoods, Donna Newton plays a key role in enhancing the quality of life throughout the city. Newton’s additional accomplishments include work with the Executive Director Academy in partnership with the Center for Creative Leadership, establishing the Nonprofit Management Institute at High Point University, and chairing the Evergreens Senior Healthcare System.

“Donna has left an indelible example of the power of civic engagement, and as a result has helped make Greensboro an even better place to live and work. We congratulate Donna on this hard-earned – and most deserved – recognition,” said Walker Sanders, president, Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro.

Restoration Place Ministries, Inc.
Restoration Place Ministries, Inc. has a twofold purpose: (1) providing significantly lower-cost counseling services to women who would not otherwise be able to afford the help they need and (2) providing gender-specific biblical counseling for women in Guilford County who are suffering from depression and other related mental illnesses (i.e. anxiety disorders, eating disorders, self-image issues, addiction, abuse, etc.). Counselors at RPM utilize a faith-based, biblical approach in helping a person to become fully developed in all aspects of life. It is important to understand that all counseling is values-based, and there are many values options available, such as secular, humanist, New Age, and the like. Although RPM counselors work solely from a biblical worldview, no organized religious denomination is imposed on a client by any staff member, nor is anyone denied service based on her religious beliefs.
