Salary Range

The White Flag Warming Center Support Staff will welcome and oversee the stay of guests at the Warming Center which opens when temperatures (or feels like temperatures) reach 25 degrees Fahrenheit or below for 2 or more hours overnight in Greensboro


Greet & check-in all guests in a professional and friendly manner upon entry into the Warming Center
 Review the Warming Center log and Ban List at the beginning of each scheduled shift
 Monitor evening activities for safety and compliance with Warming Center policies and procedures
 Prepare, distribute and replenish food, snacks and beverages if available
 Distribute blankets as needed throughout the shift and ensure collection at the conclusion of the night
 Remain available for communication and coordination with external agency partners
 Assist with regular cleaning and upkeep of the site including an hourly inspection of restrooms
 Employ de-escalation techniques and request guest exits as appropriate
 Escalate incidents and emergencies to the Shelter Director and first responders as appropriate
 Complete Incident Reports as appropriate
 Update the Warming Center log with a brief summary of the evening’s events and needs at the conclusion of each shift
 Coordinate and monitor outdoor smoking area

 Possess excellent verbal communication skills
 Be skilled in problem solving, analyzing information and handling conflict effectively
 Ability and motivation to treat all guests, staff and partners with respect and dignity
 Understanding of and willingness to adhere to professional boundaries
 Minimum of one year experience working with the homeless population
 High School Diploma or equivalent
 Reliable transportation ensuring timely arrival to work during inclement weather
 On call availability for the agreed upon shift
 Pass criminal background check
