Description

Job Title: Director of the Food Pantry
Reports to: Assistant Executive Director
FLSA Status: Full-Time, Exempt
Supervisory Responsibility: Supervise paid and volunteer staff working in the Food Pantry, including truck driver.
Position Summary: This position directs all of the operations of Greensboro Urban Ministry Food Pantry and Warehouse.
Work Schedule: Normal working hours are Monday-Friday 8:00 AM-5:00 PM but must be flexible to work other times as needed. The Director of the Food Pantry is expected to work a 40-hour week.

Duties

Essential Functions:
  • Direct the operations of the Greensboro Urban Ministry Food Pantry and Warehouse.
  • Supervise paid and volunteer staff working in the Food Pantry and Warehouse.
  • Manage truck drivers, including all pickups and all instructions for pickups and deliveries of food and boxes.
  • Train staff and volunteers on the Link 2 Feed system as well as the Square app. Enter all new client applications daily.
  • Be responsible for ordering food and other items needed for the Food Pantry program following Greensboro Urban Ministry procedures.
  • Complete store applications for Spring and Fall food drives. Coordinate with the Director of Volunteer Services on the assignment of churches and groups to all participating stores. Complete all reports pertaining to the food drives.
  • Assist community volunteers with planning food drives.
  • Assist in the implementation of food drives such as the Postal Carrier Food Drive, Scouting for Food, etc.
  • Record all incoming and outgoing food donations by month and year. Keep a current working inventory. Complete the Year End Inventory at the end of June for each fiscal year.
  • Complete the monthly Retail Donations Report, Food Pantry Report, and Food Drive monthly report for Second Harvest Food Bank.
  • Maintain a working relationship and correspondence with Second Harvest Food Bank. Complete annual Second Harvest store pick up contracts and food safety training with GUM truck drivers and warehouse manager.
  • Prepare food and other goods to be donated to Pathways, Partnership Village, and Dolan Manor.
  • Assist the Warehouse Manager in overseeing the storage, rotation, and distribution of food in the warehouse.
  • Recruit and schedule volunteers for the warehouse and Food Pantry.
  • Treat all volunteers, employees, and clients with respect, sincerity, and compassion as stated in GUM's Mission Statement.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Other Functions:
  • Attend and participate in Greensboro Urban Ministry staff meetings.
  • Keep Greensboro Urban Ministry staff informed of the Food Pantry program.
  • Complete reports as needed by Greensboro Urban Ministry.
  • Represent Greensboro Urban Ministry in the community as needed.
  • Become knowledgeable of hunger issues both locally and nationally.
  • Other duties as the Chief Executive Officer and Assistant Executive Director may be deemed necessary.

Equipment Used:
  • Computer, copier, telephone, iPad, printer, fax machine, postage meter, adding machine, pallet jack.
Working Conditions:
  • General office environment and exposure to computer screen.
  • Warehouse environment and exposure to hot and cold temperatures, dust, and truck fumes.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent require. Associate or bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Two years of experience in a management role preferred.
  • Valid driver's degree required.
Other Requirements:
  • Speaking, standing, sitting, walking, lifting, driving, writing, keyboarding, organizing, problem solving, planning, interpreting data, and supervising others.
  • Knowledge of all food pantry and warehouse equipment.
Key Competencies:
  • Organizational skills, attention to detail, public speaking, and skills for efficient performance.
