We are pleased to announce the search for a Director of Donor Impact, a newly created position for Say Yes Guilford located in Greensboro, NC. Reporting directly to the CEO, the Director of Donor Impact is responsible for organizational philanthropy and overseeing donor relationships among key constituencies. The ideal candidate will be someone who can serve as both a strategist and action-focused implementer. This individual will oversee all fundraising activities in partnership with the CEO and board, while also working closely with the Greensboro and High Point Community Foundations. This individual should be gifted in the art of fundraising, i.e. someone who derives energy from being in front of donors, cultivating relationships, and soliciting major gifts. Given the strategic nature of the role, s/he must also understand the science of fundraising, including implementing and overseeing the systems and managing the data necessary to move a successful program forward.

Say Yes Guilford is a new 501c3 birthed out of the national organization, Say Yes to Education. It exists to provide economically disadvantaged students and their families with the, financial, academic, social, and emotional support services necessary to seize the opportunity to attend college. After a national search in 2015, parent organization Say Yes to Education selected Guilford County as the site of its third community chapter. When Guilford became a Say Yes community, it was the first community-wide program outside of New York state. It was also significantly larger in size and scope than its predecessor chapters, based in Buffalo and Syracuse, New York. In 2018, it became apparent that the previous models needed to be adapted to the local needs of a large county with two major cities. Thus, while the mission of the organization remains unchanged, its goals could be better accomplished by giving local leadership the flexibility to adapt to local-level needs and opportunities as they arose. Today, Say Yes Guilford is an independently run and governed non-profit which remains affiliated with the larger national Say Yes to Education network.

This role is an exciting opportunity to work alongside a strong CEO and significantly engaged Board to build out the development strategy/function for SYG. This first development director will be stepping into an organization that is in a healthy financial position and poised for success.

Duties

Working directly with the CEO and Chief Impact Officer, this newly created leadership position in development will help resource and chart the future growth of Say Yes Guilford’s endowment. The Director of Donor Impact will have the support of the board as well as both the Greensboro and High Point community foundations as together they seek to help the new director with important introductions to current and potential major donors toward the achievement of $25 million in giving over the next three years. While SYG views its long-term growth as resting on a well-rounded and multi-channel development platform, near-term priorities for the position will focus heavily on major gifts. Therefore, the incoming Director of Donor Impact should bring to the position solid, verifiable major gifts fundraising solicitation experience as well as the capacity to help develop and implement an overall SYG development plan.

Specific Responsibilities

► Establish and maintain a donor cultivation cycle and gift stewardship program to ensure that longtime supporters and new major donors are developed, have opportunities to increase their level of support annually, and enjoy a close relationship to Say Yes Guilford.

► Manage the cultivation of donor relationships, leading by demonstration: sharing the vision and giving opportunities primarily through in-person visits, phone calls and correspondence

► Perform donor research, including identifying donor prospects and appropriate offers to engage.

► Manage portfolio of major gift prospects through the donor cycle utilizing principles of relationship-management, and personally conducts a pre- determined number of one-on-one visits with prospects on a yearly basis to secure donors and funds.

► In collaboration with Say Yes Guilford’s senior leadership team, the board, and both the High Point Community Foundation and the Greater Greensboro Community Foundation, assists in the development and implementation of cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for major gift prospects. This involves personally soliciting prospects for major and planned gifts (both outright and deferred), as well as providing the strategy, support, and accountability for others to solicit prospects to maximize the opportunities for fundraising success.

► Work in collaboration with the SYG Development committee to assist with and develop a robust Major Gifts program. Work with these volunteers in identifying, qualifying, cultivating, and developing personalized requests for support as well as stewarding the relationships.

► Establish fundraising targets in consultation with SYG leadership and Board and develop strategies to reach them.

► Ensure timely and accurate maintenance of all gift, solicitation, and donor information to include tracking and fulfillment of pledges, donor recognition activities, and stewardship.

Qualifications

► Four year degree in Non-Profit Management, Business, or equivalent major gift experience

► Minimum 5 years of extensive relationship building experience in a fundraising environment

► Excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders

► Excellent writing, research, communications, and presentation skills

► Knowledge of Microsoft Office – Word and Excel and Power Point

► Strategic Thinker, Attention to Detail and Strong Program Management Skills

► Values Collaboration and willing to perform both as an individual contributor and part of a team
