This position is responsible for strengthening the organization’s relationship to the community through membership development, event planning, and fundraising development. This is a full-time staff position. The Community Outreach Director will work with the Executive Director and other staff to plan, implement, direct, and track membership, outreach, and fundraising activities related to Preservation Greensboro as a financially stable and community-engaged institution. The Community Outreach Director is responsible for individual, corporate, foundation, and government fundraising. This staff person will dedicate specific focus to implementation of a capital fund drive for major preservation projects (including capital campaign) as well as annual and planned giving programs. The position is expected to utilize the full range of collaboration available to meet prescribed benchmarks, including the Board members, Committee chairs, Executive Director, and volunteers for fundraising initiatives and events. • Development of a plan and strategy for meeting and growing a $350,000 annual operations budget in addition to priority preservation projects.
• Engage membership through activities; develop a strategy to expand membership and sponsorship support; development of a government support strategy; and development of a planned giving strategy.
• Tracking, communication, and follow-up with major donors, sponsors, and members.
• Develop new donor/member groups including those associated with any new programs.
• Coordinating and diversification of foundation support; overseeing all grant-related writing and other collateral materials with Executive Director.
• Organize and oversee management of fundraising database with Executive Director.
• Communicate development strategies and concise talking points for PGI staff.
• Ensure recognition as appropriate for donor support.
These duties in addition to Event Management and Communications


• Minimum 5 years direct fundraising experience. Proven leadership in development areas of campaigns, donor cultivation, membership development and organizational coordination.
• Ability to prioritize, multi-task efficiently and respond to a high volume of ongoing requests in a timely fashion. Ability to work collaboratively with a small, dedicated team and help in set-up and break down of events.
• Highly organized, personable, and demonstrated oral, written, administrative, and organizational skills.
• Must be able to articulate the organization’s programming to a wide range of audiences in a variety of ways including social media, digital formats (WordPress, Constant Contact, DonorPerfect), and printed media.
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel required. Familiarity with other software, including databases, a plus.
• Prior work in the art/education/museum world is a plus.
• Bachelor's Degree required.
