Description

We seek a candidate with a strong accounting background and experience to  oversee planning, implementation, and maintenance of effective organizational and financial processes at Starmount Presbyterian Church to enable the work of ministry.  Flexible schedule!

Duties

  1. Financial and Accounting Management
  • Management and upkeep of financial and accounting record keeping; ensure transactions are appropriately classified and completed
  • Develop and maintain proper fund accounting procedures
  • Utilize and maintain current financial database software for all church & preschool financial activity, contributions data, online donations, and reporting; reconcile all subsidiary records to financial data (currently use ACS church accounting software)
  • Supervise Maintenance of ACS HeadMaster Preschool module software; monitor billing and accounts receivable; reconcile records to ACS Financial data
  • Monitor all accounts, transactions, investments, and fees; maintaining accurate documentation of all receipts, disbursements, and banking activity
  • Manage cash balances of funds prudently to maximize income
  • Maintain a record of all restricted gifts including donor instructions, if any, and assure that all restricted funds are disbursed as designated
  1. Financial Planning, Analysis, & Reporting
  • Generate monthly financial statements for 1.) church budget 2.) preschool budget, and ) endowment funds; and provide budget analysis for Session/committees
  • Attend Finance, Preschool and Endowment committees, providing insight & analysis
  • Provide support to Stewardship Committee in annual campaign
  • Develop annual budget in partnership with committees and Session
  • Review financial activities of church, contracts, vendor agreements and advise appropriate committee with recommendations or changes
  • Prepare and record month-end adjusting journal entries; perform analytic review of account activity and ending account balances, including sources and uses of designated funds
  • Complete special financial analyses and projections on an as-needed basis
  1. General Accounting & Bookkeeping
  • Maintain status of member pledges and prepare annual contribution statements in accordance with IRS regulations
  • Supervise & review processing of weekly contributions; verify & record all receipts in financial records
  • Supervise processing of vendor payments & reimbursements, confirming account codes & appropriate approvals
  1. Payroll & Benefits
  • Supervise payroll preparation for all church and preschool employees on biweekly basis
  • Ensure records related to payroll, benefits, & taxes are maintained, accurate, and up to date
  • Oversee financial aspects of benefit administration
  1. Facilities Administration
  • Coordinate with Buildings & Grounds committee on facility projects and their impact on church budget
  • Assist staff and committees responsible for maintenance of risk management policies and insurance coverage
  • Maintain awareness of financial impact of major office systems, software, equipment
  1. General Responsibilities
  • Ensure that financial activities conform to applicable laws and regulations, both governmental and ecclesiastical
  • Filing of all required quarterly and annual tax reports (Payroll, Sales Tax, 1099’s, etc.)
  • Serve as a resource for church members, staff, and lay leaders
  • Attend Weekly Staff Meetings
  • Work Closely with Administrative Office Manager to provide office coverage
  • Supervise Part-time Accounting Clerk

 

Qualifications

  • Preferred Education – BSBA Accounting
  • Desired Experience – 5 years in Accounting, Church Business Administration, or as Controller
  • Advanced Accounting experience or CPA, as well as non-profit experience a plus
