Job purpose

The AmeriCorps Program Director is responsible for the overall planning and execution of the AmeriCorps program.

Duties

Essential Functions

  • AmeriCorps Grant Oversight
    • Maintain sound organizational management and documentation systems and practices compliant with federal laws and regulations, Corporation for National and Community Service and the North Carolina Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service
    • Collect, analyze and report data in relation to stated performance measures
    • Utilize data to make ongoing improvements to strengthen the program
    • Participate in managing the budget for the program, working cooperatively with the Executive Director and Director of Operations to plan for and manage program funds
    • Develop and maintain a system for tracking member hours and keep members apprised monthly of their position relative to completing their hours on schedule
    • Plan and participate in skill and knowledge-building educational opportunities that promote professional growth.
  • Member Management and Support
    • Utilize sound human resource and inclusion practices and principles to recruit, enroll and retain diverse AmeriCorps members
    • Ensure members are performing activities in accordance with Corporation rules and guidelines, including timesheets
    • Provide members with written agreements outlining program requirements and expectations
    • Collect mid-year and end-of-year member performance evaluations from site supervisors
    • Update member and site supervisor handbooks
    • Conduct scheduled and unscheduled supervision of the members
    • Develop and manage a system of member recognition
    • Guide AmeriCorps members in coordinating projects to benefit the homeless community on a monthly basis
  • Site Management and Support
    • Ensure site accountability to the program expectations and requirements
    • Develop strong relationships with the Continuum of Care and support the overall goal to reduce and end homelessness locally
    • Educate site supervisors about AmeriCorps, their responsibilities and the rules and regulations of the program including prohibited activities
    • Facilitate site visits at least quarterly
  • Training
    • Develop and facilitate and comprehensive member training plan, designed to ensure that members receive the federal, state and program required trainings and maintain appropriate documentation
    • Coordinate monthly trainings to increase the knowledge and skills of the AmeriCorps members
    • Organize and prepare materials for training
  • The Servant Center Leadership Team
    • Supervise part-time AmeriCorps Coordinator
    • Represent and promote The Servant Center and the Partnership to End Homelessness program within the community
    • Participate on the Management Team and provide direction for the agency.

Qualifications

    • Ability to read, understand and implement federal policy
  • Educated
    • Bachelor’s degree in human services or related field
  • Experienced
    • 2-3 years of experience managing volunteers
    • 2-3 years of experience managing a complex program (preferably government program)
    • Experience working with multiple organizations
  • Computer skilled
    • Microsoft including Word, Outlook and Excel
    • E-grants and On-Corps experience a plus

Working Conditions

  • May occasionally require weekend and evening hours
  • Occasionally require out of town training
  • Generally, works in an office environment but may occasionally be required to perform job duties outside of the typical office setting

Physical Requirements

  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, computer and printer
  • Moving supplies for monthly community service projects (approximately 5-10 pounds)
  • Walking or standing for extended periods of time for monthly community service projects
