Board Chair Roundtable: Build a Competent Board

The 2018 series of Board Chairs Roundtable will explore the five things your executive director wants you to know.   These “five things” are not pulled from any textbook or journal article but from Guilford County executive directors themselves.  Last year, a short survey was conducted with participants at the Consortium’s executive directors Roundtable asking them to consider the strengths of their current board and then select which five of the ten key areas of board responsibility would they prioritize for board development within their organization. The five topics selected form the basis for our 2018 discussion series.

Build a Competent Board 

Does your organization have the right board to help achieve immediate goals and long-term stability; is it the right size, representative of your stakeholders and community, and do members have the strengths you need? If not, how do you build an on-going process for identifying, evaluating and recruiting prospective Board members.  At the Roundtable, you will be invited to describe the strengths and weaknesses of your current board and explore, with other attendees, ways to improve the overall competence of your Board.
