For the past two decades, in response to societal needs, nonprofit organizations have proliferated in Guilford County and around the country. This growth prompted Skip Moore, president of the Weaver Foundation, to question whether our local nonprofit sector and our community might benefit from nonprofits coming together to support one another in meeting their ever-increasing challenges.

As a result, The Guilford Nonprofit Consortium was formed as an alliance of nonprofit organizations in Guilford County that support one another through education, networking, collaboration and celebration.

The consortium is dedicated to providing nonprofits with the tools they need to manage their organizations in the most professional and efficient manner. This alliance has grown from fewer than 100-member nonprofit organizations in 2008 to more than 275 organizations today and offers opportunities for the staff and board volunteers of its member organizations.

Programs include more than 50 roundtables, best- practice conversations, seminars and workshops throughout the year, with guest speakers of various areas of expertise. Participants also network and learn from peer experiences.

The Executive Director Academy; the Nonprofit Management Institute and the Board Development Academy are the ongoing signature academies of the Consortium.

These academies provide local nonprofit leaders and staff with excellent resources and best practices that can be applied to the organization immediately.
