Guilford County nonprofit leaders graduate from the Nonprofit Management Institute
On June 4, sixteen nonprofit leaders from Guilford Nonprofit Consortium member organizations graduated from the inaugural Nonprofit Management Institute, a six-month educational and training program that builds the management skills of local nonprofit professionals in order to maximize their impact in serving our community.

The Consortium was able to offer this program thanks to significant in-kind donations from High Point University (HPU), most significantly through the service of Pamela Palmer, HPU professor who was the instructor for the Institute and who led the development of the Institute training modules. The Hayden Harman Foundation provided a generous grant for the development of the modules and for the Institute itself. Additional foundations that provided support for the administration of the Institute are Joseph M. Bryan Foundation, Cemala Foundation, Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro, and Weaver Foundation. Thanks also to the Duke Nonprofit Management Certificate Program for crediting the participants' hours in the Institute toward those needed to obtain their Duke certificates.

The 2010 graduates of the Executive Director Academy are: Blair Benson, Guilford Center; Melody Burnett, High Point Convention and Visitors Bureau; Janice Buxton, Tom Campbell, Family Service of the Piedmont; Dara Ferris, Helping Hands Ministry; Jennifer Gore, Reading Connections; Jeni Kirk, Bell House, Inc.; Ann Lennon, American Friends Services Committee; Debbie Lumpkins, High Point Arts Council; Heidi Majors, YWCA of High Point; Ken Maxwell, Seven Homes Foster Care and Adoption Services; Donna Newton, Guilford Nonprofit Consortium; Tony Perez, Salvation Army of High Point; Eleanor Ratterman, Jamestown Library, Kathy Stuart, Community Outreach of Archdale Trinity; Terry Young, Unity Builders, Inc.

The Athena Award is a national accolade that recognizes women who have demonstrated excellence, creativity and initiative in their community; have provided valuable service by contributing time and energy to improve the quality of life for others in the community; and have actively assisted women in realizing their full leadership potential.

As director of the Guilford Nonprofit Consortium and liaison to the Greensboro Neighborhood Congress and Building Stronger Neighborhoods, Donna Newton plays a key role in enhancing the quality of life throughout the city.
